Origins of a Name...
Before AWeber had a name and became a real company, we called the tool our "Automated Web Assistant"
It's important to remember this was 1998, back when almost every logo of a company online had some sort of spider web in it.
As the day neared when we'd open up to the world it became obvious that "Automated Web Assistant" was a bit lengthy for a company name, so we tried to shorten it...
A Web Assistant
A Web Asst.
A Web Ass....
Hmmm, that's definitely not a good name for a company in our line of work.
AWeber was born!
The "A" and the "Web" pay homage to the "Automated Web". We've always capitalized the A and the W because it was 2 words originally and the kerning looks better together.
The "er" just felt like it gave it some action and was definitely better than "ass". ;)
It was short, catchy, unique, and the domain was available.
The rest shall we say, is history..
